Bound Again

Your soul looks out from
behind your eyes
and would, I think,
leave that place
To meet me
between these worlds
and mingle here outside
of space.

And our spirits would soar
at moments of touch
like autumn leaves
in the wind
carrying the prayers of
deeply rooted trees
mingle and dance once
but not again.

For as trees are rooted
deeply
and the earth enfolds
their roots
and binds them to the soil,
Our souls are bound tightly
soul to body, body to earth
and earth to world.

But listen,
you and I can dance
outside ourselves
once
and touch souls
as eyes make contact.
But can we shake loose
the leaves from
their roots
and the dreams
from their root-beds?

I might try
if you’ll look up to me
with that soul
from behind those eyes
that calm
And give me courage
to chance the fall
I may let go
and soar with you awhile.

High in the shimmering air
just once in the shimmering air
before I perish in this earth
of body
and find my soul bound again.
