Common Sense

Man is centrifugal
he seeks outward
he searches about-ward
never knowing inward
is the beginning of direction.

Universe is centripetal
always whirling inward
center-seeking free-ward
never knowing outward
is the conscious choice.

I think herein lies a complement
of forces:

              in                 out

But the direction is all
wrong:

              in                 out

no, no it’s all wrong
(they’re both so stubborn
and strong)

Let me wrestle some more:

             in                out

I have the handle now
a slight twist of the wrist
and presto!

Man and universe in spiral
Knowledge born from form
all things complete
a joining so sweet.

Force upon force in direction
a strong summation of vectors
beauty held in awe
love defined in full.

Turn upon turn directed inward
and all upon all turned outward
simplicity as a basis
yet so intricately may we raise it
that I fear in some distant future
a fool may write of the present
and think something herein was magic
when really it was only common sense
built it.
