may not

enter

the  new formalistic body

politic but

such as Ishtus can

A slim volume of poems

Ishtus constructs

but a monumental volume

of criticism results

But look for Longellow

and you will find

but a poorly published

volume

of rhyme

But what a volume!

America is there

or at least

we shared

your failure

though you would deny

And the best

you can do

is ignore

that which

you won’t comprehend

And still pretend

that you’ve taken

his measure

scholarship

Bide your time

Longfellow, Whittier & Holmes

as a nation

will eventually

consign the critics

to the obscurity

they deserve

and seek solace

in your well-penned word
