Updates

Patterson Gap is a place designation in North Georgia, USA. It was located at the end of the hollow (or holler) that contained my grandfather's farm. At the place where the mountains/hills converged was the gap where the mountains/hills could be most easily crossed.

This is my blog site to document all my poems. I am adding them in (mostly) chronological order.

Besides the six I've added today, I've also added more labels to better organize the poems as well as continuing with alphabetical labels.

Sacred Groves

The sacred groves
were there a day
after the machinery
stripped the forest away

I walked a last time
through the arch like branches
of trees
cathedral intended
by God for me

I wonder now
where sacred groves
might remain
as development
doesn’t sanctify
like ancient ways

At the ballpark

 At the plate
stands the batter
swings the bat
Crack, the answer

But only foul
the ball rolls
up to the bat boy
near the base coach

At the rail
stands the four
all of them yell
for the treasure

Dreams led them on

There were campfires,
Gyres of blaze,
when men would speak
their great deeds

Of the hunt
that day
the story
would stray.

In gesticulating
arm waving
whooping spurts
of life-stuff

The hunter-king
armed his men
with vision.
Were they not kin
to him?

Early Evening

Enlarged belly
exacts its toll
wealth brings girth
as a tax on the soul

the price of a pound
of your best ground

My health I wonder
is it worth the cost
of wealth lost
and time not squandered

The price of a bottle please
of your best disease

Yeats beach

Yeats sweetened
death
as love
becomes the worm

Was never
to my mind
the thoughts
I deserved

Yet sweet death
has come now
into my thoughts
time to time

And love
has taken
a more
circuitous climb

There it is again

There it is again
just a whiff of gas
natural that is
makes a person wary

Why couldn’t it be
a good stiff jolt
then you’d know
the furnace’s out again

Or there’s a leak
in the line
behind the stove
anything but a whiff

There it is again
just a strange catch
in the left breast
